{"id":5798,"date":"2020-05-13T09:00:04","date_gmt":"2020-05-13T07:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tsastre.com\/what-does-soap-do-against-coronavirus\/"},"modified":"2025-02-12T14:55:31","modified_gmt":"2025-02-12T13:55:31","slug":"what-does-soap-do-against-coronavirus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tsastre.com\/en\/what-does-soap-do-against-coronavirus\/","title":{"rendered":"What does soap do against coronavirus?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The mechanism by which soap hinders the spread of coronaviruses is very interesting and has a scientific background.<\/p>\n<p>The SARS-COV2 coronavirus (this is the name of the coronavirus; COVID-19 is the name of the disease it produces) consists of 3 main parts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Genetic material (RNA) of the virus<\/li>\n<li>A membrane formed by a lipid bilayer (fat) that protects the genetic material and helps it to colonize other tissues.<\/li>\n<li>Proteins that serve to adhere and bind to various surfaces and may aid in virus replication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Soap<\/strong>, on the other hand, is made up of a part (a head) that attracts water (hydrophilic) and another part (in the form of a tail) that attracts fat (lipophilic). This lipophilic glue, in contact with the virus, is capable of dissolving the membrane that forms the coronavirus, causing its <strong>inactivation <\/strong>(it is not possible to speak of virus death because viruses are not considered living beings).<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, <strong>soap is one of the worst enemies of the coronavirus<\/strong>, and is one of the most effective measures in preventing its transmission.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>What about hydroalcoholic gels?<\/h2>\n<p>They have a mechanism of action very similar to that of soap, and can be useful to be able to carry and use them away from home. However, it should be noted that not all hydroalcoholic gels being sold are effective against coronavirus.
