Imagine this: Your little one falls asleep peacefully while drinking his bottle of milk… It sounds cute, but it’s one of the biggest risks to their teeth. 🚫🍼
It is called “Baby Bottle Tooth Decay” (or rampant childhood caries).
What’s up?
At night, saliva production (which cleans the mouth) decreases dramatically. If your child falls asleep drinking milk, formula or (even worse) juice, the sugar from that drink gets “embedded” in their teeth for HOURS.
Bacteria take advantage of this sugar and produce acids that destroy the enamel, causing very aggressive caries that advance very quickly, especially in the upper front teeth.
THE GOLDEN RULE:
The bottle (or breast) should be given BEFORE brushing teeth and going to the crib. Once teeth are brushed, ONLY WATER is drunk in the crib/bed.
