Letting them brush is the first step, but HOW we do it is just as important!
Many parents brush by “rubbing” from side to side (like a handsaw), and this can be ineffective on the little ones.
The right technique (for them and for us):
🔹 Circular movements: Place the brush at the gum line (slightly tilted) and make small, gentle circles, “sweeping” the dirt from the gum outwards.
🔹 Go in order: Start with the molars on one side, go to the outside of all the teeth, then the inside, and finally the “roads” (the tops of the molars)!
🔹 Tongue too: Gently run the brush over the tongue to remove bacteria.
🔹 No force: Don’t squeeze. Aggressive brushing damages the gums and does not clean better.
Remember: YOU should brush their teeth (or brush VERY well) until they are 7 or 8 years old. They do not yet have the motor skills to do it well on their own.
