Due to the coronavirus and the declaration of a state of alarm throughout Spain, there is no choice but to stay at home until further notice. We can’t go outside or walk around freely, so we have a long few days ahead of us. The most important thing is not to fall into despair and try to follow a set schedule and routine as we would normally do. It can be especially difficult for our children because many will not be able to understand the situation. Here are some ideas for coping with quarantine with children at home and keeping them active and moving.
Imagination to the power
With children at home it is important to stimulate movement and the best way to do this is to use our imagination to achieve it. Physical activity is vital to keep your spirits up. Frustration and boredom set in when children do not have the opportunity to engage in physical activities. Creativity is important and, with original ideas, we will be able to make our days easier.
If you have a large space (you can also create it by setting aside furniture to be more comfortable) you can play hide the treasure, make an obstacle course, play with soap bubbles, play tag, hide-and-seek, hide-and-seekor blind man‘s buffalo. You can also play to see who can balance in the same posture the longest or dance to your favorite music.
We propose a series of activities to keep the whole family mentally and physically active. For example, through a fun Scape Room, an Enigmatic Yinkana or a Live Cluedo. You can also make your own homemade games, so children will be doubly entertained: first, they will have to create and decorate the necessary material, and then they can spend hours enjoying themselves. With things you have around the house you can make a Twister, a soccer team out of sheets, any aiming game, bowling and even a cut-out tic-tac-toe game.
Another very interesting alternative is to teach them notions of orientation through a map. It is only necessary to show them how to use a compass and indicate several coordinates in order to find their destination. It is also a good time to recover traditional games such as the knot, the movies, the current, the statues or the unpredictable ‘continue the story’.
Here are a few ideas that ziving tomas sastre propose you. What do you think? We hope they will help you in these moments when the little ones of the house are with us and we can enjoy them. Come on dads, we’ll make it….
